A seven goals to one opening quarter has laid the foundation for the Redland Colts best win of the season over fellow finalist Southport Sharks

Having narrowly defeated the Sharks on the Gold Coast a week ago the Bombers were far better prepared for this contest and bounced out of the blocks playing a great brand of football

The Redland Bombers have been given a lesson in just what’s required if their season is to extend past the home and away fixtures in 2014

In the much anticipated clash against fourth placed Aspley at Graham Road the Bombers were blown away in the second quarter where Aspley totally dominated possession plus their opposition.

The Bombers started brightly and had skipped out to a three goal lead early in the first quarter. Quick concise ball movement opened space for all forwards and they finished off the work up field through accurate conversion.

The Redland Bombers Colts were pushed right till the final siren but did enough to defeat Southport 7.12.54 to 7.7.49

The game fluctuated with teams kicking to the southern end of Fankhauser Reserve seeming to have an advantage albeit the wind was only moderate

After a good first quarter from the Bombers Southport came right back into the game at half time

The Bombers wasted a number of opportunities in the third quarter kicking 2.6 and then had to withstand a strong finish from the Sharks where they regularly peppered the goals.

A gutsy come from behind win against the Southport Sharks has seen the Redland Bombers move one step closer to securing a NEAFL finals berth.

The game was played in fine conditions at Fankhauser Reserve with a fast paced opening and finals like intensity.

Both teams traded goals in the opening term with hard running and uncontested ball a feature. Forwards were finding space with the ball transitioning from defence at regular intervals.
